🟦 DAY 10 — Sat, 24.10.26
Berlin (08 18)> Hamburg (10 21)
With arrival at Hamburg Hbf at 10:21 AM and your return train at 7:39 PM, you have 9 hours 18 minutes in Hamburg. That is enough for a very good first visit, provided you keep the pace brisk.
Hamburg in One Day — Your Revised Plan
Arrival: Hamburg Hbf — 10:21 AM
Departure: Hamburg Hbf — 7:39 PM
Time available: 9 hours 18 minutes
10:21–10:40 AM | Hamburg Hbf → Rathaus
Walk towards the Hamburg Rathaus through the city centre.
You don't need to spend much time inside the Rathaus. The impressive Rathausmarkt and the exterior are the main attractions for a quick visit.
10:40–11:30 AM | Rathaus & Altstadt
Visit:
- Hamburg Rathaus
- Rathausmarkt
- St Peter's Church
- Alsterarkaden
- Jungfernstieg
Then walk towards the Binnenalster.
Don't spend too long here — the real character of Hamburg is further south towards the Speicherstadt and harbour.
11:30 AM–1:15 PM | Speicherstadt + Chilehaus
Walk towards Speicherstadt, Hamburg's spectacular historic warehouse district.
See:
- Speicherstadt canals
- Wasserschloss
- Poggenmühlenbrücke
- Chilehaus
- Kontorhausviertel
This is probably the most photogenic part of Hamburg and, for your one-day visit, deserves plenty of time.
Approx. 1¾ hours
1:15–1:45 PM | Elbphilharmonie
Walk towards the Elbphilharmonie.
Go to the Plaza, which offers excellent views of the Elbe, HafenCity and Hamburg harbour.
You don't need to take a concert or guided tour.
Time: ~30 minutes
1:45–2:25 PM | Quick Lunch
Have a quick lunch/snack around HafenCity or Landungsbrücken.
Since your sightseeing window is limited, I wouldn't spend an hour in a restaurant.
2:25–3:45 PM | Landungsbrücken + Hamburg Harbour
Take public transport or walk towards Landungsbrücken.
See:
- Landungsbrücken
- Elbe waterfront
- Harbour
- St Pauli Piers
And importantly, walk through the Alter Elbtunnel (Old Elbe Tunnel).
💡 A particularly good idea for you
Instead of paying for a tourist harbour cruise, consider taking one of Hamburg's regular public ferries if the timetable fits.
You get a harbour experience at normal public-transport cost, which fits your budget-travel style.
3:45–4:30 PM | St Michael's Church
Walk/take public transport to St. Michaelis Church (Michel).
This is one of Hamburg's most famous landmarks.
If you have time and the tower is open, go up for the panoramic view.
Don't worry if you can't fit the interior/tower visit — the exterior itself is worth seeing.
4:30–5:15 PM | St Pauli
Walk towards St Pauli.
This gives you a very different side of Hamburg from the historic centre.
5:15–6:15 PM | Reeperbahn
Walk along:
- Reeperbahn
- Große Freiheit
- Beatles-related locations around St Pauli
You don't have to spend money here. It's primarily about experiencing the atmosphere and seeing one of Hamburg's most famous districts.
6:15–6:45 PM | Return to Hamburg Hbf
Make your way back towards Hamburg Hbf.
I would not push sightseeing beyond 6:45 PM. Your train leaves at 7:39 PM, and you don't want to be running through Hamburg with luggage.
6:45–7:20 PM | Hamburg Hbf
You have a comfortable buffer to:
- collect/organise your luggage
- buy something for the train
- find your platform
Hamburg (1939) → Berlin (2138) by Flixbus
My verdict
Yes — this schedule works very well.
You have 9 hours 18 minutes, and the route is logically arranged:
Hamburg Hbf → Rathaus → Altstadt → Speicherstadt → Chilehaus → Elbphilharmonie → Landungsbrücken → Old Elbe Tunnel → St Michael's → St Pauli → Reeperbahn → Hamburg Hbf
The only thing I would not try to squeeze in is a museum such as Miniatur Wunderland. It is excellent, but with only one day and your 7:39 PM fixed departure, it would eat too much of your sightseeing time.
For your style, this is a much better Hamburg day: walk, public transport, architecture, harbour, history and atmosphere — rather than spending half the day inside museums.
Berlin → Night stay
🟦 DAY 11 — Sun, 25.10.26
Dresden and Saxon Switzerland National Park Full day city tour from Berlin - Getyour Gudie
Your journey begins in Dresden, often referred to as the “Florence on the Elbe” for its magnificent Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided walking tour through the historic city centre, where centuries of history come to life.
You will discover some of Dresden's most iconic landmarks, including
Theatrerlatz
Brühl’s Terrace
After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Dresden at your own pace.
In the afternoon, the journey continues to the spectacular Bastei Bridge, the most famous landmark of Saxon Switzerland National Park and one of Germany's most breathtaking natural attractions.
Take time to walk across the bridge and enjoy the panoramic viewpoints overlooking deep valleys, towering sandstone cliffs, dense forests and the winding Elbe River below.
